Wappingers Falls police were alerted to the "unofficial" show in the parking lot of Dutchess Plaza on Route 9, around 8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, said Wappingers Falls Police Lt. Paolo Capparelli.

When police responded they found more than 250 people attending the unpermitted event with the cars engines revving and backfiring, Capparelli said.

The parking lot has been a gathering spot in the past for such events, but once police arrived on the scene those gathered would usually disperse without any issue, he added.

On Sunday, a large group of those taking part refused to leave and some acted in a threatening manner causing Wappingers Falls police to call for backup from numerous agencies including the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, Park Police and others, Capparelli said.

One man, Jhonny Garcia, 23, of Poughkeepsie, kept refusing to leave or comply with orders and was tased by police, Capparelli said.

Once tased, he was evaluated by EMS but refused medical treatment. He was then charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstructing governmental administration.

Garcia was then released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on March 10.
